ECO-St (abbreviation of ECO Street) is a real shop selling products that help you reduce the harmful impact that you might have on the planet. We stock things to help you work out how much energy you consume and to help you use less. Our staff can help you work out how to make a difference. For example, we sell over 100 different types of energy efficient light bulb, three ways of turning your TV off standby and four mobile chargers that don't involve getting electricity from the mains.
We don't preach or try and change the way you live but explain what is out there to help you live your life in a less harmful way.
It's not all about using less energy. We stock non-toxic paints, organic beauty products, natural baby products and books - lots of them. We explain about rain water harvesting and can point you in the right direction for solar products. We can sell you composting systems and advise you about wind turbines. We don't always wear sandals but we do know what we are talking about.
At the moment you can't buy our stuff online (at least you can't from us) because we'd rather you paid us a visit. 'But that's not very eco' we hear you say. Well, we think that if you do the lightbulb audit before you come, work out your carbon footprint and bring all the family with you then it will justify the carbon emitted for the trip. If you fly in then you'll need to buy a lot.
And finally, the garden centres in which we have our shops sell everything to do with growing things that soak up carbon emissions. And they serve tea and buns.
Low energy light bulb library
To help you work out just which low energy light bulbs works best in your light fittings we have developed a low energy light bulb library. If you're interested in borrowing one for yourself, school or group then please send Matt an email with your details at yarntonshop@eco-st.com
